Carpenters, painters, decorators, and bricklayers are very much requested and highly paid.
There are four certifications available, each qualifying for a different job position.
The Certificate III of Carpentry is perfect for an outcome in carpentry for residential or commercial applications.
This certification allows one to gain common skills needed to operate in the construction industry (such as work planning, conducting workplace communication, applying OHS requirements, policies and procedures) as well as those that are specific for the said field of work.
All training is delivered in context as it is pivotal to acquire these competencies in a real or closely-simulated workplace environment.
Some core units teach how to carry out minor-building demolitions, leveling operations, measurements and calculations, and excavations. Interpreting plans and specifications as well as erecting and dismantling height scaffolding.
The Certificate III in Painting and Decorating provides a trade outcome in painting and decorating for residential and commercial construction work.
Apart from the units covering the common, core competency requirements, there are two specialised fields of work (painting and decorating) and all training is carried out in a real or real-like setting.
Conducting workplace communication, working safely at heights and calculating the costs of construction work are also offered as skills in some modules.
The Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling qualifies for a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial constructions.
The qualification has core requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as a specialist field of work and all skills are undertaken in a real workplace environment.
Planning, organizing and communicating on the workplace, carrying our measurements and interpreting specifications, applying basic leveling procedures and OHS requirements and policies are some of the topics covered in the core units.
The Diploma of Building and Construction is designed to meet the needs of builders, selecting contractors, overseeing the work and liaising with clients. The builder may be the licensed person with responsibility under the relevant authority in the State.
Core units offer more advanced practical training and teach prospective builders how to prepare a construction contract, identify the estimated costs for building and construction projects, apply building codes and standards as well as structural principles to low- and medium-rise buildings, supervise on-site planning and manage project risk and quality.
Once this qualification is completed (after a course of study of at least 2 years), one can require a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485), which allows one to stay in Australia for 18 months with a full-time working permit (one will not need to attend school anymore) and gain first-hand experience after the studies in order to land a Sponsor or even a Permanent Visa in some cases.
Attendance: twice a week full-time, theory and practice.
