Commercial cookery is very popular and sought after career field in Australia.
With an above-the-average salary and high employment rates, the culinary field is definitely one of the most demanded hospitality industries.
There are currently two certificates available, which qualify for different job positions: certificate III and IV in commercial cookery.
The former trains for the role of the commercial cook, which requires well-developed cookery skills and a sound knowledge of kitchen operations to prepare various food and menu items under limited supervision and using procedures, plans and policies.
This qualification aims at providing a pathway for future commercial cooks working in hotels, restaurants, pubs, cafes and coffee shops, clubs.
The latter provides the educational background for commercial cooks who lead a team or act as supervisors in the kitchen. This job position requires well-versed cooking skills, little to no guidance from others and higher discretion and problem-solving skills to solve uncommon kitchen issues.
This qualification aims at providing a pathway for future chefs and Chefs de Partie working in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs or even running a small business in these sectors.
Once this qualification is completed (after a course of study of at least 2 years), one can require a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485), which allows to stay in Australia for 18 months with a full-time working permit (one will not need to attend school anymore) and gain first-hand experience after the studies in order to land a Sponsor or even a Permanent Visa in some cases.
Attendance: full-time twice a week full-time, one dedicated to theory and one practice (20 hours per week).
Course features (starting date, price, and duration): subject to variations according to the enrolment period, course duration, holiday duration, selected city, selected school, enrolment costs and school supplies.
Payment: quarterly instalments
